A webinar was organized in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Food Planning and Monitoring Unit under the Ministry of Food. The webinar was organized on 26 October for the purpose of integrated discussion and the intention and commitment to work together to ensure a sustainable food system. The main objective of the webinar was to present the views and opinions of people at all levels to promote food as a powerful tool for SDGs. The webinar was presided over by the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Food, Md. Mojibur Rahman and Md. Shahiduzzaman Farooqui, Director General (Additional Secretary), Food Planning and Monitoring Unit, Ministry of Food was present as Vice-President. Mia Seppo, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, and Robert Simpson, FAO Representative in Bangladesh were also present among others at the webinar. Prof. Dr. Joachim von Braun, the Chair of the Scientific Committee of the UNFSS and Professor of the University of Bonn in Germany made the keynote presentation, while Dr. Mohammad Monirul Hasan, Market and Trade Policy Advisor of the FAO Bangladesh moderated the webinar.

Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque on Friday admitted the country is yet to become self-sufficient in rice production, despite a record yield of the staple food in fiscal 2020-21. The minister was addressing a press briefing at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) here marking the celebration of World Food Day 2021. Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations organized the function. Bangladesh is observing World Food day on 16 October with the rest of the world, with the theme, 'Our actions are our future- Better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life.' FAO Bangladesh Representative Robert D Simpson spoke as the Guest of Honor at the event. Senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and heads of agencies were present at this time. Robert D Simpson, FAO representative in Bangladesh, said about World Food Day, `We are putting unnecessary and unsustainable pressure on our shared planet. We need to respect our environment when we produce food and make sure that everybody has access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food.' Dr. Mohammad Monirul Hasan, Market and Trade Policy Advisor of FAO moderated the session.

On September 23 at the United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit (UNFSS), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to present the National Pathway Documents of Bangladesh, which was prepared focusing on nutrition and food safety issues. The United Nations and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) have convened the summit to set different levels of the food system transformation to achieve the SDGs. This was disclosed at a 'Media Sensitization Workshop on Participation of Bangladesh in the UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS), 2021' held at the Tathya Bhaban in Dhaka. Food Ministry organized the workshop while its Secretary Dr Nazmanara Khanum chaired the event. Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mokbul Hossain, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO Bangladesh) Country Representative Robert D Simpson, FAO Adviser Dr Monirul Hasan, Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Country Director Dr Rudaba Khondker, Food Ministry's Additional Secretary Khaja Abdul Hannan and Food Planning and Monitoring Unit (FPMU) Director General Shahiduzzaman Faruki also spoke at the event.
